How it works
What this is.
AbiaVoters is an independent opinion poll for Abia State. It shows who participants say they would vote for. It is not an election and does not predict one.
How your vote is checked.
You choose your local government area and ward, and we ask for your location. Each vote then gets one of four labels:
- Verified: your location matched your chosen ward.
- Located: your location was inside Abia but didn’t match your ward, or the signal was too weak.
- Self-declared: you chose a ward without sharing location.
- Under review: something looked unusual, so we hold the vote back until it’s checked.
If your location is outside Abia, the vote is not accepted.
What you see by default.
Headline numbers show verified votes only. You can switch to verified plus located, or all votes. Vote counts for every label are always shown.
One vote per race.
You can vote once in each race. We use a mix of signals from your device to stop repeat voting. They can’t stop every attempt.
House of Assembly.
In some local government areas, ward-to-constituency lists are still being confirmed with INEC’s published data. There you pick your constituency yourself, and those votes are never labelled verified.
What we can’t promise.
Location can be faked, VPNs can hide where someone is, and phones can be shared. We label votes so you can judge for yourself. This is also not a scientific poll: results reflect only people who chose to take part.
How we handle your data
What we collect: the LGA and ward you choose, your poll choices, the time of your vote, a label showing how it was checked, and hashed codes made from your device and network to stop repeat voting. If you share your location, we use it once to check it against your ward and do not store it.
What we don't collect: your name, phone number, email, or exact location. We do not store your exact location, your name or your phone number.
Why: to count one vote per person per race and keep bots out. By voting you agree to this use of device signals; if you decline, you can't vote.
Who sees it: our hosting, database and security providers (Cloudflare, [database host], [web host]) process traffic for us, and they may keep their own technical logs. Data is stored in [region].

You must be 18 or older to vote. This is an unofficial opinion poll; it is not affiliated with INEC.
Who runs it.
AbiaVoters is operated by [operator name]. Funded by [sponsor name, or “independently funded”]. Sponsors cannot change or influence results.
Our data.
Candidate lists come from INEC’s final lists as published in 2026 ([date]). Ward names come from INEC’s registration areas. Ward boundaries come from GRID3 and CIESIN at Columbia University. These are operational boundaries and have not been officially validated.

A vote can only be labelled verified in a ward whose boundary we have matched to INEC’s ward list. 161 of 184 wards are matched so far. The share below is a count of wards, not of registered voters. LGAs under 70% are flagged.
